Announcement Description for global announcement

As the world’s energy demands increase, oil and gas companies will play a crucial role in the transition to a balanced energy mix and increased industrial emissions management. Emissions captured at the source, then transported for utilization or subsurface storage allow hard-to-abate industries, such as energy, cement, steel, and chemical companies, to help build a more sustainable future and meet production demands.

To build safe and reliable underground storage solutions for CCUS projects, ultralow temperature technology advancements based on oil and gas industry solutions will help create the future for these low-carbon solutions. For example, subsurface safety valves minimize the risk of leakage, protecting personnel, equipment, and the environment during a loss of containment scenario.

Halliburton developed the first subsurface safety valves in the 1940s and has installed close to 50,000 tubing-retrievable safety valves (TRSV) to date. Based on that knowledge and field experience, the company developed a safety valve solution to address the unique conditions found in a CO2 well and incorporated reliable, field-proven designs to help prevent uncontrolled flow from a well.

Specialist tests materials to withstand CCUS applications

CCUS Innovation and Technology

Halliburton designed the Neostar™ CS TRSVs for harsh environments and extended-life applications. This solution helps make CO2 storage sites safer by withstanding the unique conditions created by CO2 injection.

The Neostar CS TRSV earned its “CS” designation through rigorous industry test protocols. Its low-temperature rod-piston design and metal-to-metal sealing features minimize potential leak paths, ensuring gas-tight performance under all conditions. NeoStar CS TRSVs demonstrated operability and survivability at temperatures as low as -35°C and -78.5°C respectively with enhanced reliability in CCUS applications, even in the harshest environmental conditions and temperature ranges.

The NeoStar CS TRSV suite, comprised of four sizes, offers the broadest range of features in the industry today. This accommodates a range of completion designs and meets diverse customers’ requirements for CCUS applications.
